Audio: Au Courant! Alex Isley "DreamsInAnalog"

I've been waiting for this album since she released Love/Art Memoirs, which is hands-down my favorite album of 2012. Love/Art Memoirs gave a personal account of a relationship that she was either involved in, or knew about, from the past. DreamsInAnalog speaks more of a present, continual, fluid relationship that is familiar and resurfacing from the past that she's willing to give this "love" another go. You will get the run down from the lead track "So Here It Goes" featuring Paris Strother from KING!

DreamsInAnalog was written and produced by Alex Isley, which I just love for several reasons. The project is very personal, which is evident in all the details in production, the vocal arrangements, the lyrics, the content and even the cover art speaks volumes in itself. I feel when you produce your own album you know exactly what and how you are going to convey the song to the listener, and there's really no right or wrong way...because it's your art. Oh, what a feeling. Some of you may know that I have a special place in my heart for 7 minute songs, so the fact that the average duration of each track on this album is 5 minutes gives DreamsInAnalog bonus points on top of my standard criterion to give an album the "baby Stace Stamp of Approval" lol. It's weird because at first listen I didn't realize the length of the songs because you are caught up in the musical journey. From her soft, warm, angelic, saturating tone of her vocals to the super sexy, deep drums along with the pitter patter pulsating drums that give each song a heartbeat, the percussive samples and lush pads create the perfect movement and life throughout the album. The last thing I have to mention about her production is that she picks the best sounds that don't compete for position in the mix, so that you can hear and feel the depth of each track. Brilliant.

Alex Isley has a gift of pulling you into her relatable stories and makes you understand what you're feeling in your own relationship. DreamsInAnalog gives hope at that love that hasn't left and is still there to explore, and you find that after all this time you "Still Care". You may be reaching "For the Stars" and questioning if coming back to this familiar place is the right move, but "The Other Side" of it all is that the sun is shining on your new day, and just from their look and from hearing their voice makes you smile. So, it's all worth it to forgive and try our hand at love again because being with you feels so good, and to just come "Closer" because there's nothing better "About Him". It's so funny that I have so many instant favorites on this album and DreamsInAnalog just dropped today. This album will be in heavy rotation for awhile. There's just so much to listen to, and each time you listen to a song you will hear or be reminded of something different than the last listen. Great feeling.

Lastly, I LOVE the cover art. I guess I'm an "analog girl caught up in a digital world". Digital, is so cut and dry, bright with pre-determined settings. It's simple to deal with and the channels and signal flow paths are endless, but sometimes too many choices may lead to never achieving the desired or destined outcome. Analog, there are more gray areas with the potential settings, it's more hands on and out the box and not as many options, but it's fluid, it's continuous, it's noisy, it's warm, it's the foundation, it's the beginning....yeah...."DreamsInAnalog" is the beginning of a new era................

Audio: Listen Up! Chase Moore - "Shaken Not Stirred"

Famous James Bond theme

As soon as I saw this pop up in my News Feed from Chuck T. I knew Chase Moore's "Shaken Not Stirred", A Beat Tape of 007 Flips, was going to be worth listening to. Pretty much anything from Hippie Sabotage is solid. Plus, I just love when producers have intriguing concept albums, and flip captivating samples to allow us to rediscover a classic phrase or sound. They tell us their story, a different interpretation always makes for a good feeling. Chase Moore did a great job with this capturing the classic feel of the great Bond themes with vintage hip hop undertones. I mean come on James Bond, nobody is touching the smooth Sean Connery Bond. I was also drawn to this because my family is made up of two major James Bond enthusiasts. For example, this past Thanksgiving we had Vesper martini's, and hanging in my parents home are framed pieces of scenes from a few of the Bond films. Goldfinnggggaaaa lol. I really hope you enjoy this. It's beyond dope. Make sure to link with Chase Moore on his Twitter page to stay in contact with him, and support his projects!

Audio: Au Courant! Feral Cat

colorful abstract art

Feral Cat is a punk-pop band out of the Mission district in San Francisco, CA dropping their first full length untamed record "jobz". This album was a great experience for me on several different levels. The band consists of Paul Montes (vox/ukele/guitar), Jessamyn Cuneo (vox/drums) and Michael Santer (bass), and with just three bandmates they created such a big sound on this record that will really make you wanna rock out, but at the same time listen and decipher the lyrics. I have a weak spot for drummers...period...but when I find out that a woman is keeping the time, in a male dominated position it makes me proud!  I've tried my hand at a drum kit and man oh man let me just say that was NOT a pretty scene. Okay, so back to 'jobz'. I really find it interesting that we all come from different walks of life, and we express ourselves differently, but the underlying message is similar. We all want love, but question where it went wrong. We want to be treated fairly from authority figures, and many of us strive to keep our heads up even while we are struggling waiting on the brighter days. So, whether your form of expression is through 808s or screaming, distorted amps we have the same story, and I truly appreciate when I feel that from the Music. My last remarks about this album is that Paul Montes' voice is such an instrument. I know artists don't like to be compared to other artists, but after listening to these songs Paul's voice reminded me of Jim Morrison, Anthony Kiedis and from time to time the ukele he strums. Pretty cool. Alright, well support Feral Cat by purchasing their music from their Bandcamp site, and like their Facebook page to stay up on these cats hee hee pun intended.

Audio & Video: Au Courant! Def Sound

painting of man wearing glasses with colorful brain exposed
Cover Art Painting by Andre Power

Lately, I've been hearing everyone throwing around the term brand. Oh, my brand this and that and building it blah blah blah, and I even used the word today on my radio show LOL. Well, let me tell you the mighty ∂eƒS❍und has his brand on point. What he creates musically sets a high standard as an emcee and producer, along with his presentation, packaging and image...I know is setting trends. He also has got the coolest merch for sale....maaaannnn do I LOVE unique socks! Super smart. I can just tell he skips to a different beat, and I love that. I love originality that's authentic. There's soooo many people I've come across that put a lot of work into trying to be perceived as out of this world and sooooo different, but they really aren't and it's just awkward. Okay, I'm back I got off topic for a sec...it happens LOL So, yeah he dropped an album today called △nything: thee.idea.machine. that I can't wait to check out in it's entirety, and his camp released a new video called „spuıɯ ˙ɹno ˙uı ˙ ǝɔuɐp„ haaaa exaaaactly my point. You feel me haaaa...on some other for sure. So, the video is called dance.in.our.minds or d.i.o.m directed by Araie Robinson, and the song was produced by Zack Sekoff. He has a plethora of music and videos and stuff online to check out, and be prepared to be impressed. Def Sound will be everywhere soon enough mark my words. Music isn't only about making great records, which he does, but it's alllllll the other stuff that goes into it. Your creativity, your intelligence, your committment, your professionalism, your business flow and the infamous word of the day your BRAND ha! Oh, and real quick what I also appreciate about Def Sound is that you can tell he puts a lot of care and thought into his projects from all the minute details included. It especially, left an impression with me that for a majority of the videos I watched he includes a brief description of where the Music takes him. I get it. I LOVE IT! Lastly, Music should make you feel something whether it be a happy, sad, mad, or goofy. It's supposed to stretch your thoughts, heal your heart, speak that universal language that we all understand and just take you away to another place like a good book. Okay, I've said enough. He's got a new fan and supporter right here for sure! Check out alllllll the links above and support Independent artists and their Music. Listen, watch and purchase his new album 'Anything' released today RIGHT HERE, but you can listen to the sampler below. His website is cool too check it out. I wonder who develops his sites hmmm. Alright, I'm out!

Audio & Video: Au Courant! Analogue Monsta

Two hip women standing in front of brick building

'Boom'! It's finally here the long anticipated album from Analogue Monsta. I've been keeping my good eye on this one for quite some time. These two are a "movement by themselves, but a force when together" for sure. The creativity that's poured into this project is mos def going to push the envelope and create a wider and more lanes for artists such as Suzi Analogue and TOKiMONSTA. Those of you that are into experimental music will love this, and those of you that will try anything once may get hooked with this one, and keep coming back for more LOL. I can't wait for the shift from what is considered left...the new mainstream *twiddling thumbs* I haven't really got into this album yet like I want to so let's explore it together. Let's talk about it. Let me know what you think. Oh yeah, it's a free download too!
