Pawz One has surely made his mark in Hip Hop with his debut album "Face the facts". Many artists today try to capture the essence of the "golden era" of Hip Hop sound and feel, but Pawz One has accomplished this one track at a time. "Face the facts" started off great and ended exceptional. This is a solid collection of work that touches on many aspects of the everyday life of a go-getter seasoned by every experience encountered.
The music that many up-and-coming rap, or dare I say "hip hop" artists record today are faking it until they make it. Many of us engaged in the music industry KNOW you aren't popping bottles of Ace of Spades everyday, you borrow apparel, whips and fly eye candy to create an image that you think people want to see. It's not you. It's just so inauthentic and felt through the music with the nursery rhyme lyrics and superficial content. Times are changing and the people want more. If you don't believe me ask Macklemore & Ryan Lewis who swept every rap category at the 56th Annual Grammy Awards.
"Face the facts" gives us more to listen to and relate to. "It's straight from the heart and represents REAL HIP HOP because Pawz One uplifts the listener, brings awareness to social injustice within our communities ("Officer Down"), and tells a story in a genius way (PLEASE listen to "Blood Brothers") with his swift and slick rhymes, "Bringing It Back" to the origins of Hip Hop. I swear after listening to this album you become smarter or at least it leaves you inspired and ready to take on the world with tracks like "What You Make It".
As hard hitting as this album is there was room for a love song, called "You Could Be". It wasn't mushy or corny or out of place. It was perfect in every way of how a woman imagines to be loved by a real man not a little boy. It also has many feel good anthems celebrating the good life of simply enjoying your loved ones with "My Night". I also enjoyed the "Defstrumental" lyrical breaks that you could break ya' neck to and make those screw faces to ahaha okay maybe that's just me, but the producers Default and Breeze came with the soulful, funky-smooth, straight boom-bap SLAPS! So good. Make sure to support REAL, TRUE Hip Hop by attending Pawz One's shows when he comes to a city near you, follow him on his social networks and of course PURCHASE "Face the facts"!
